Enchanted Rock

Enchanted Rock is one of the many historical Texas Parks to visit under ten dollars!  It is absolutely beautiful and one of my favorite places to hike. If you are coming from San Marcos, a great idea is to go through Fredericksburg and walk around their shops. My friend Caroline, Sam and I went to a delicious candy shop and got a few pieces of their fudge. There are a ton of great German restaurants sit and grab a bite, but we packed a picnic instead to save money.

We arrived at Enchanted rock and had to pay only seven dollars a person. The parks hours are great because it’s open most of the day. If you get there early you can sit on top of the rock and look at the view for hours. The view is worth seven dollars, trust me. Up top there are little plant families that habitat an endangered species of microscopic shrimp, which i found pretty interesting. The history of Enchanted Rock is very interesting and a little shocking. Indians used to sacrifice their own on the very top. The blood would drip down the sides of the mountain and the rock would absorb it.

We stayed up top for about an hour and a half talking, and as soon as we went back down an officer stopped us. The new rule for dogs states they cannot climb the rock due to the risk of dehydration and they must be on a leash. The officer ended up giving my friends tickets because they had dogs off the leash! We ended up talking to the officer for a while about how they continue to maintain the park. He said he loves working here and usually never has any trouble. I plan on going back to hike in the near future because it really is a beautiful place to go. If you want to go camping or see some other cool tips, check out these Enchanted Rock Tips!
